PROCEEDINGS OF REGULAR MEETING OF

NATCHITOCHES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2016

                                     

A regular meeting of the Natchitoches Parish School Board was held on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Natchitoches Parish School Board Office, 310 Royal Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and upon roll call, the following members and Dale Skinner, Secretary-Treasurer, were present:  Eugean Garner, Carroll Daniels, Joella Collins, Harry Graham, Russell Danzy, Michael Hilton, Emile Metoyer, Steven Harris, Thomas Melder, Rhonda Guidroz and Ralph Wilson. The meeting was called to order by President Ralph Wilson, followed by an invocation by Mr. Harris and Pledge of Allegiance Mr. Melder. 

 

Superintendent Skinner gave an update on how the first few weeks of the school year were progressing.  There was no old or new business to discuss. 

 

Mr. Graham made the motion to accept the consent agenda and Mr. Melder seconded the motion.  After some discussion, the motion and the second were withdrawn.  With a motion from Mr. Hilton and a second from Mr. Danzy, the decision was made to accept the following consent agenda. Upon roll call voting on items B1-8 all items passed with unanimous consent from the members present.

1.          Mary Beth VanSickle, Supervisor of Instruction K-5, travel to Los Angeles, CA, November 1-7, 2016, to present at the 2016 National Association for Education of Young Children K-3.  The trip will be funded through the Rapides Foundation Grant.        

 

2.          Aaron Beaubouef, FFA Advisor at NCHS, travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to chaperone students from NCHS who will compete in the National FFA Competition.  Trip to be covered through the Ag Travel Fund.

 

3.          Sarah Dyson, FFA teacher at NCHS, travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to chaperone students from NCHS who will compete in the National FFA Competition.  Trip to be covered through the Ag Travel Fund.

 

4.          Vincent Bahm, FFA teacher at NCHS, travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to chaperone students from NCHS who will compete in the National FFA Competition.  Trip to be covered through the Ag Travel Fund.

 

5.          Ryan Riley, FFA advisor at Lakeview, travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to chaperone students from NCHS who will compete in the National FFA Competition.  Trip to be covered through the Ag Travel Fund.

 

6.          Adam Thibodeaux, FFA teacher at Lakeview, travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to chaperone students from NCHS who will compete in the National FFA Competition.  Trip to be covered through the Ag Travel Fund.

 

7.          Preston Tibbett, Dylan Daniels, Bradley Scott, Brooklyn Hampton, Tabitha Dove, Holly kay, Garrett Hood, Kelsey LaCaze, Tyler Tousek, Carrie Dowden, Samantha Phillips, Tyler Nichols, Paul Sheffield, Kirhawnte’ Dudley, Seth Jones, Faith Stetson, Brooklyn Martin, Frank Lester and Kade Davis, NCHS students. Travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-22, 2016, to compete in the National FFA competitions.  A three hundred dollar stipend per student is being requested from General Fund.

 

8.          Kelsey Shoemaker, Ashley Womack, Mallie Lester, and Tyler Sullivan, Lakeview students. Travel to Indianapolis, IN, October 17-21, 2016, to compete in the National FFA competitions.  A three hundred dollar stipend per student is being requested from General Fund.

2.          Monetta Hamilton, Health Tech, M. R. Weaver Elementary, effective July 29, 2016.

 

 

Mr. Danzy presented the Finance Report.  There were no bids to take action on during the meeting.  The transportation and tax commission reports were received on Tuesday. 

 

Mr. Danzy offered the motion to accept the 2016-2017 Consolidated School Board Budget which was followed by a second from Mr. Garner.  Upon roll call the following votes were cast, YEAS:  Eugean Garner, Carroll Daniels, Harry Graham, Russell Danzy, Michael Hilton, Steven Harris, Thomas Melder, Rhonda Guidroz and Ralph Wilson.  NAYS:  Joella Collins and Emile Metoyer.

 

With a motion from Mr. Danzy, a second by Mr. Melder and roll call voting of the board, unanimous consent was given to approve piggybacking the City of Alexandria’s bid for vehicle purchase.

 

Mr. Danzy made the motion with a second from Mrs. Collins for approval of the Rapides Foundation 2016-2017 Healthy Behaviors School Partnership Grant Project with the Natchitoches Parish School Board for $24,950.00 with permission for the Superintendent to sign all necessary papers.  The grant period is 12 months.

 

Upon motion of Mrs. Collins and a second by Mr. Metoyer, the meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
